Sponsors Day Presentations - Sat 24th September 2005

Rugby - The Hurricanes new 1st XV shirts were presented prior to the Fareham Heathens match to Tommy Booth (Chairman) by Paul Mitchell representing National Westminster plc.

Also present at the presentation were: Bob Simpson - Coors Brewers; Pat Legg -The Tap Public House; Richard Dixcey - Dixcey Landscaping; Ray Smith - Frame That Photo; Brian Phillips & Ali McCullogh - IOW Tours; John Coleman-JR Coleman Plumbing; Richard Tuck - Alles Shirts; Peter Dempsey - J Dempsey and Alan Whitehouse (Treasurer).

Tommy Booth said "This is a big step forward for the club being sponsored by National Westminster", and also welcomed this seasons other new sponsors and the continued support by local companies. "This support certainly helps the club to develop its sport and recreational facilities for the Island community".


Petanque - SSRFC are well on the way to the completion of a 32 terraine petanque facility and on Saturday hosted an Inter Regional match between the IOW and Southern. The IOW lost the match 10 - 18 but there were very favourable comments about the terrains from both sides. Although the Island lost the match Shirley Hiscock, president of IOW petanque, was pleased that some new island talent had been given the opportunity to complete at this level. IOW Tours have plans to bring petanque teams from both the Mainland and Europe to play the Hurricanes so get those Phrase books out! Further sponsors for the team are J Dempsey Civil Engineering and Dixcey Landscapes. Treasurer Alan Whitehouse said "the support of local businesses is very welcome as the Club continues to improve and develop the Sandown site for Rugby and Petanque".
